Get your head around software deployment, now!
Some of the regulars here at Visio Talk are computer geeks. Lets be honest. I know, and you know it and we both know that it is in fact a term of endearment. So, this post is especially for you guys. (But, everyone else is welcome to read on too..)
Whether you are employed in a help desk function, marketing function, a development function, a coding role, a sales role, a CEO role whatever, software deployment is something that you will increasingly want to get your head around.
Multi-media training, online prospectus’, full blown web presence via e-commerce and advertising, or just your run of the mill company wide upgrades of essential software like Microsoft Office.. all these things need to be managed, and whether that is done competently, professionally and accurately determines how much of a financial impact, as well as whether the process is ultimately a morale and culture building or destroying force within and without your organization.
Do yourself a favor and spec out your requirements with a professional company, and pay for some software to help get the job done. Do not try and do it manually, even if you feel deep in your bones that you are genius good at this stuff, because as we all know only too well, this stuff flows only in one direction. If you do a brilliant job, no-one notices. If you do even a slightly poor execution it kills not just your team, but your credibility with customers and suppliers, and can in a very tangible way (from days either off-line, down, or completely crashed) slow your sales cycle and hurt period earnings.
There are some eloquent solutions in the marketplace, but the problem I find is that these guys do not come knocking at your door. Surprisingly (not!) some of the most talent inventors, where it is hardware, software or traditional industry, are not the greatest sales and marketing people. I wish more would learn from genius individuals like Brin, Page or Jobs.
So, I will point you towards one here. And let you google the rest.
