PUBLIC REITS
I have thought before about a property investor with the definition of a private REIT. Now, let’s take a look at the concept of a Public REIT. This is important as public REITs provide an excellent opportunity for those looking to invest in overseas property with limited capital. (This is great news for those who may have been flipping through Property Investment Guides and felt left out!) As mentioned earlier, public REITs are traded on stock markets. That means these REITs can be purchased or sold at will. While the “payoffs” of a public REIT may be less than privately held ones, public REITs come with significantly less risk. This is not to say that a publicly traded REIT is a “sure thing” as no investment is. However, such a REIT comes with smaller minimum investments than a private one. This makes these investments far better as a conservative long term investment. If that is the investor’s goal then a public REIT might be the best option to pursue.
