Would You Put Your Mum/Dad In A Nursing Home?

January 20, 2008 By: admin Category: Home 1 Comment →

There is no doubt that one of the hardest decisions any child is going to have to make is whether they need to send their mum or dad off to live in a nursing home.

We still have a very institutional orientated view of the nursing home setting, even though the advances in elder care have been significant. Not just in terms of technology and from the pure health profession (doctors and nurses) side of things, but also in terms of culture and atmosphere.

A lot more emphasis gets placed on quality of care and quality of life these days, it seems, than in days past. And, I am not sure this is just because it is more important to people these days, I do not believe that. I think people have always wanted their loved ones to be happy in assisted care. I just think that we are a lot more emotionally self aware as a society today than ever before and we also have that little bit extra years under our collective belt to study and analyze what is and what is not conducive to the overall well being of people. Older people included.

Vacuuming the Carpet with Your Blender?

January 05, 2008 By: admin Category: Health No Comments →

What’s the most important thing when it comes to vacuum cleaners? Suction, of course. You use a vacuum to remove dirt, hair, and allergens such as dust particles or pet dander from your carpet. You might as well be dragging your blender across the living room carpet when your vacuum cleaner loses suction.

If you’ve owned any of the popular brands of vacuum cleaners, you know that over time their suction begins to fail. First you notice your vacuum is missing small pieces of lint or pet hair. You change the bag or clean out your canister and filter and see some improvement, but it’s temporary.

Next it is even larger pieces of fuzz that are staying stuck to the carpet. Now you clean the brush roller, too, but that barely makes a difference. Eventually your vacuum really isn’t working well at all. It’s time for a new vacuum, even though the old one is still running.

What’s the alternative to these disposable vacuums that lose suction gradually over a few weeks, months or years? A Dyson vacuum cleaner is the solution. It’s the only brand that is guaranteed not to lose suction, and it doesn’t. So the next time your vacuum stops working, invest in one that never will - or at least not for many years to come.
